About Jamie Carragher
"Jamie Carragher was born in Bootle and from the age of 3 his Mum and I can remember, that he wanted to be a footballer. By the time Jamie was 7 years old, I had to tell a little white lie and say that he was 8, because in those days you needed to be 8 to play competitive football. He immediately started playing on a Sunday for Merton Villa in the under 11's Bootle and Litherlands District League.
Even in those early days Jamie's potential and natural abilities where very obvious; those abilities combined with determination and total dedication to developing the skills necessary to play at premiership level, have ensured that Jamie achieved his dream."
Dedication to Football and the 23 Foundation
Since those early days Jamie Carragher has become one of the Premier League’s most dependable defenders. He always plays with absolute commitment and his name has been one of the very first names on the team sheet for over a decade.
Jamie Carragher is the epitome of what supporters love to see on the pitch - a local lad from Bootle who knows just how much Liverpool Football Club means to the people who pay to watch games.
Jamie Carragher has decided, as a way of saying thank you to the people of Merseyside and all Liverpool Football Club Supporters, to set up the "23 Foundation" to "help give local kids a chance" and, as with everything in his life, Jamie is committed to making this lifetime project a success he says it is one of his proudest moments to date:
Jamie Carragher always knew what he wanted to be. Fortunately for the young Jamie Carragher there was support and opportunity within his local community:
- At the age of 8 Jamie Carragher played football for his School team at St James Primary School.
- At the age of 9 Jamie Carragher was playing 5-a-side games for the Brunswick Boys’ Club most nights of the week as well as for Merton Villa U11’s on a Sunday.
- At the age of 9 Jamie Carragher also played for Bootle Boys U11’s District representing all the primary schools in Bootle.
- At the age of 10 Jamie Carragher was made Captain of Bootle Boys U11’s District in what was a very successful year.
- At the age of 13 Jamie Carragher, having been at Merton Villa for 7 years was chosen to play for Sefton Borough.
- At the age of 14 Jamie Carragher attended the former FA school of excellence in Lilleshall.
- At the age of 16 Jamie Carragher signed YTS at Liverpool Football Club and played in the Lancashire League and the FA Youth Cup which they won in 1996!
- 1996 was a memorable time for Jamie Carragher as he was in the team which won the FA Youth Cup.
- In 1997 Jamie Carragher made his Professional debut for Liverpool and scored in front of the Kop.
- It was in 1998 that Jamie Carragher became a first team regular for Liverpool Football Club.
- In 1999 Jamie Carragher scored v Southampton and made his debut for ENGLAND v Hungary.
- In 2000 Jamie Carragher broke the England Under 21’s Appearance Record, holding 27 caps.
- In 2001 Jamie Carragher was in the team which won the Treble (FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup).
- In 2002 Jamie Carragher’s first child, a son named James Lee was born on the 11th of November.
- In 2003 Jamie Carragher was part of the team which defeated Man United in the Carling Cup Final.
- In 2004 Jamie Carragher’s second child this time a daughter named Mia was born on the 14th of May.
- In 2005 Jamie Carragher Married his Wife Nicola and experienced Champions League Glory.
- In 2006 Jamie Carragher scored v Fulham, Won the FA Cup and played in The World Cup.
- In 2007 Jamie Carragher broke the record for Appearances in Europe for Liverpool.
- In 2008 Jamie Carragher released his bestselling Autobiography under the title Carra.
- In 2009 Jamie Carragher set up his new Charity the "23 Foundation" aimed at "giving local kids a better chance in life" in the Merseyside area.
- In 2010 Jamie Carragher launches his new Official website, his true motivation behind the site is to support the 23 Foundation.
- By 2011 Jamie Carragher will have donated every penny raised of the proceeds from his Liverpool Football Club Testimonial to the 23 Foundation.
